==History==

Radio broadcasting began as a means of announcing in coming aircraft during World War II & during the 1960s & 1970s provided primarily shipping and aircraft news. Radio Norfolk has evolved into a service that operates 365 days of the year.
In the early days of Radio on Norfolk Island, that station was situated in the Administration Buildings in Kingston, inside the historical New Military Barracks (of what is now the Office of the Administrator). Unfortunately the station was decimated by fire in the 1970s and since then, Radio Norfolk has been housed in its current premises in New Cascade Road, close to the commercial heart of the Island, Burnt Pine.
In 1999 with Australia moving into the digital area, Radio Norfolk installed a 10-metre satellite dish to enable the continuation to receive and relay overseas TV as well as Radio services on their own dedicated frequencies and re-transmitting certain services overnight while the local station is closed.
In 1991 the Norfolk Island Broadcasting Service (which includes both Television and Radio Services on Norfolk Island) became an Additional Full Member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.〔http://www.abu.org.my/abu/index.cfm/pageid/126/Home/Membership/〕〔Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union - Members Directory 2007, page 89〕
The station is manned by both paid and voluntary staff, and provides a great mix of music and personalities for the community
Radio Norfolk also runs a Youth Radio program, which encourages the youth of the community to train in, and familiarise themselves with community radio, with currently about 10 children hosting their own shows each week.
Taking part in the community, broadcasting from several local cultural or sporting events, as well as the broadcasting of the meetings of the Legislative Assembly in the AM band.
